JSEC Scholarship Program

Scholarship ProgramPurpose

Finger Lakes East JSEC is offering a $500 scholarship to each of three (3) high school students from Ontario, Seneca, Yates or Wayne County who plans to pursue full time, higher education leading to a degree in any area.

Eligibility

  1. Applicants must be accepted in an undergraduate program.
  2. Applicants must have a B average, 3.0 GPA or 85 average for at least three semesters, which will be verified by the official transcript.

Applicants must:

  1. Submit a business style resume:
    1. Name, address, telephone number, e-mail address
    2. College and college address you will be attending
    3. Major college studies
    4. High school activities
    5. Offices held in high school
    6. Outside activities
    7. Work and/or volunteer experience
  2. Submit an official transcript
  3. Submit an essay of 250 typed words. Choose from one of the following:
    1. What event(s) and/or person(s) in your life made you the person you are today?
    2. What has influenced your decision regarding your upcoming career and/or education choice?
  4. Submit three letters of reference; at least one must be from someone directly involved in your education.

Decision

  1. After the JSEC Scholarship Committee reviews the completed applications, it may be necessary to interview the finalists. Letter of the decision will notify the winner by May 17, 2010.
  2. The decision of the Scholarship Committee is final. An award will be presented only if qualified applications exist.
  3. Award will be presented to the winner upon successful completion of the first semester. Recipients of the award must maintain a 2.5 GPA their first semester.
  4. Scholarship winners and their parents are invited to join the JSEC Committee for lunch to celebrate your scholarship award on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, 11:30 am at the New York Wine & Culinary Center, 800 South Main Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424.
